Clinical trial report on anti-cavity mouthwash

The clinical trials of the anti-cavity mouthwash were conducted in the dental clinic of the State Medical Academy of Nizhny Novgorod (SMANN), at the chair of restorative dentistry.

The anti-cavity mouthwash is a preventive mouth hygiene aid which contains a number of active ingredients: amber acid, potassium alum.

The anti-cavity mouthwash has an anti-inflammatory, hemostatic and deodorizing effect. Amber acid, being a unique energetic medium, intensifies biochemical and physiological recovery processes which is the basis of its normalizing effect on the activity of a range of tissues. In the recent years amber acid has been used as the most active oxidant with a direct mitochondrial activity as well as an effective immunomodulator (O.N.Safonova et al., 1998). It enhances microcirculation of blood in the tissues which surround teeth. It enables regeneration in microtraums, reduces edema, sore and discomfort in the mucous coating of the mouth and parodontium in general.

The committee included: chairman - Chairman of the chair of restorative dentistry, Doctor of Medicine, professor L.M. Lukinykh; members – Doctor of Medicine, professor L.N. Kazarina; assistants – PhD in medicine N.N. Bondarenko, PhD in medicine O.A. Uspenskaya, PhD in medicine L.I. Vdovina, PhD in medicine A.V. Diomina, E.V. Kitayeva.

The trials were conducted by the members of the committee, faculty of the chair of restorative dentistry of the State Medical Academy of Nizhny Novgorod and the dental clinic of the SMANN. The trials were followed by the analysis of the anti-cavity mouthwash administration by 187 patients.

The method of administration of the anti-cavity mouthwash is as follows: the patients used 20-25 ml of the anti-cavity mouthwash for rinsing their mouth cavities 2 times a day as their regular home mouth hygiene practice, during the monitored mouthwash administration in the hygienist room at the dental clinic of the SMANN and during professional cleanings by a dentist.

GOAL of the trials: to improve the level of dental health of the Russian population by introducing the new anti-cavity mouthwash into the mouth hygiene practice.

Objectives:

1. To introduce the new anti-cavity mouthwash, which allows to optimize and intensify mouth hygiene, to the Russian population.

2. To study the antibacterial properties of the anti-cavity mouthwash.

3. To study the effect of the anti-cavity mouthwash on the amounts of natural colonization of buccal epithelium of the mouth cavity mucous.

4. To influence the conditions of the mouth cavity local immunity by the anti-cavity mouthwash.
